Babel Fish Language School is a unique school for students who want to improve their English and experience the excitement of surfing.

I started teaching English in 1996 at the Kent School of English where I worked for two years. In 1998 I qualified as a NARS Beach Lifeguard and British Surfing Association surf instructor. I moved to Cornwall where I have taught surfing to beginners and intermediate surfers, as well as continuing to teach English to students.  I hold a cert. TESOL qualification from Trinity College and a BA Hons in English Literature.

At Babel Fish, students benefit from my experience as both English teacher and surf coach.

I run Babel Fish from my 18th century cottage in the village of St Columb Minor, 2 km outside of Newquay. Students come to the house in time to begin class at 09:00. English lessons continue until 12:00 when we break for lunch. After lunch, we go to the beach and spend the afternoon surfing. (See surfing page for more info).

You will stay with a host family not far from the school, who will provide you with breakfast and an evening meal. The host families are chosen by me because they are friendly, welcoming and will also help you with your English!

You will study on a one to one basis or you can come with a friend whose English is of a similar level.
